Can we get married inside Waves?
Yes you can. If you take our finger food / cocktail package there is enough space for your ceremony if your wedding is below 80 guests or 40 seated guests. We do not set up or provide ceremony decorations but are happy for you to bring your own. Alternatively we highly recommend Jacquie from In2U Ceremonies to set up your ceremony for a discounted price as a Waves on the Beach client.
Who supplies centerpieces and decorations?
We can supply simple candles (tea light candle in holder) but recommend that you organise centerpieces. If you need an amazing local florist, we recommend Naomi Rose at http://www.naomirose.com.au
Can you extend closing time?
Due to our liquor license requirements we are not permitted to open any later than 11pm.
Can we swap certain wines and beers from the 2 different Beverage Packages?
You can swap certain wines/beers. Additional charges will apply for more expensive items.
What is the earliest we can set up our decorations/venue open for DJ?
2 hours prior to doors open.
Can you set up our centerpieces?
If you have simple centerpieces (e.g. vase w flowers) we are happy to place these for you. If more complex, we ask that you have someone set these up for you.
What can we leave at Waves overnight?
Due to our venue being a restaurant as well as a function venue, we kindly ask that you take all presents, decorations and equipment home with you after your function.
How does the table plan/place cards work?
We send you suggested table plans that maximise the space, depending on your guest numbers. We then liaise with you to find the perfect seating plan. Our tables can range from 6-16 guests and we ask that you keep the bridal table under 12 for aesthetic purposes. We do not provide place cards or set them up, and ask that you print your seating plan.
If we don't bring a DJ/band, what do you suggest? Do you recommend any wedding bands?
We have speakers located throughout the restaurant (excl. balcony) and can provide background restaurant music. For any louder music we recommend you bring your own speakers/PA.
In terms of recommendations for live wedding music, we have 2 fantastic recommendations. Rose ‘n’ Thorns – https://www.facebook.com/rosenthornsentertainment or Darren Watson (ask us for contact details).
How do you cater for people with dietary requirements?
We pride ourselves on making your guests with dietary requirements feel special. We cater separately for these guests and they can even have the freedom of pre-choosing their meals from our extensive gluten free or vegetarian menus. Alternatively, we can personalise a menu with the chef.
What timeframe/timeline of events do you suggest?
We suggest that you have dessert/wedding cake served and cleared by 945pm/10pm the latest to ensure that there is ample time for you and your guests to dance/mingle before the 11pm closing. Depending on how many courses you have, and when you arrive, we start serving canapés/entrees as early as 630pm.
For example;
600pm arrival of guests, dips/platters on tables
630pm canapés or entrees
730pm mains
830pm speeches
900pm dessert
930/45pm dessert cleared, formalities finished
Are there any decorations we are not allowed?
We are happy for you to bring in any decorations as long as you do not damage our walls/floor/roof. You can email functions [at] wavesonthebeach.com.au for some ideas. The only prohibited item are table scatters and smoke machines (sets off fire alarm).
Are we allowed to involved 3rd party external companies?
We allow you to bring in any external companies (e.g. photo booth, DJ/musicians, photographers, wedding planners etc.) but ask that you communicate any requirements with them (e.g. set up permitted 2 hrs. before doors open).
What happens if we can't make our minimum spend?
If you have taken the beverage package and food package, we can put the remaining money onto the bar for guests to order spirits. We find this is the most common request. Alternatively we can offer pre-dinner canapés, premium welcome drinks and welcome any other suggestions.
Can I tentatively book a date?
As we take online bookings for restaurant dining, we cannot take any tentative bookings. If you want to secure a date you will need to pay a $2000 deposit.
How much food to you provide for the cocktail finger food package?
We pride ourselves on making sure every guest leaves content. Unlike other venues, we do not count pieces per person for our finger food option. Instead we have unlimited food up until 9pm as we find this is the best way to make sure that no-one leaves hungry. We prefer to over-cater than under-cater and we find our guests are happy with this too.
Can we get any discounts through Waves?
We love making friends with local businesses and forwarding on discounted prices to you. At the moment you can receive discounted accommodation rates at Quest Frankston and Quest by the Bay.
Our very best friend is the always smiling Jacqui from In2 ceremonies. Jacqui is already well-priced yet is determined to look after Waves’ clients and offer a generous discount with all your ceremony needs. We highly recommend Jacqui, not only because she is fantastic, but to ease your wedding stress in the planning/setting up of the ceremony (and reception).
We are also in the process of having our in-house Waves celebrant that can assist you with your ceremony process. Our celebrant can organise your ceremony at Waves or another venue of your choice.
